About Gravstrike’s Creators

Gravstrike is a production of new game publisher Drive & Energy, whose partners are Jeff Tidball and Kevin Childress.

The idea for Gravstrike is more than 15 years old, with its genesis in the concept of using CCG-like constructed decks to drive a game with the feel of Car Wars and Battletech in a rich world like those from Legend of the Five Rings, Warhammer 40,000, and the World of Darkness games. Design work began in 2013 when it became clear that the game wasn’t going to design itself.

Jeff and Kevin, who had worked together at Fantasy Flight Games from 2006–2008 on titles like Chaos in the Old World, Horus Heresy, and Beowulf: The Movie Board Game formed Drive & Energy in 2014 to make this thing happen.

Jeff Tidball

Jeff TidballJeff is an award-winning game designer, crack writer, and experienced creative executive.

He worked for Atlas Games from 1995–2000, managing Ars Magica‘s fourth edition and taking care of a little bit of everything else. Afterward, he wrote screenplays while day-jobbing for the likes of Decipher on The Lord of the Rings Roleplaying Game and mobile game start-up Tomo Software on a “massively mobile” RPG. Jeff joined Fantasy Flight Games and became its Vice President of Product Development in 2006. Among other things, he’s currently the Chief Operating Officer at Atlas Games.

Jeff has won three Origins Awards and been nominated for a half-dozen more. He’s been a nominee for the hella-prestigious Diana Jones Award, and won an ENnie for Best Adventure in 2014.

Jeff’s marquee designs include the FFG edition of Horus Heresy, the Eternal Lies mega-campaign for Trail of Cthulhu, and Pieces of Eight, a pirate ship combat game that’s played with minted metal coins. He’s also very proud of his development work on Eric Lang’s Chaos in the Old World.
